Port Vale 0-1 Leicester City
Port Vale put on a decent showing against Championship side Leicester City who only narrowly defeated a severely depleted Vale side.
The Valiants included trialists Ben Parker (who had played for Leeds, Bradford, Carlisle and Darlington) and Mathias Doumbe in their patched-up defence, which was missing six players through injury. Skipper Doug Loft was also missing through injury.
It was the visitors who took the lead on 13 minutes when Waghorn netted and they could hve stretched their lead through Marshall and Danns only for the duo to miss the target. Vale created chances for Mohammed and Tomlin but to no avail.
Vale made seven changes at the interval and Shuker played in Birchall for another good chance but the veteran couldn’t find the target.
Trialists Doumbe and Parker were replaced by Doug Price and Gary O’Neil in the closing stages as Vale gave their squad members a run-out.
