Birchall’s 25th cap ends in defeat
Port Vale’s most capped player, Chris Birchall earned his 25th cap as a 71st minute substitute, but he was unable to prevent Trinidad and Tobago slipping to a 4-0 defeat to Romania.
Birchall, who has now played three times for T&T already during his second spell at the Valiants was named as vice captain for the friendly game and took over the captain’s armband from Densill Theobald when he was brought on.
Birchall is set for a busy summer of International football with a further friendly game against Estonia in two days time and then, should he be picked, there is the summer Concacaf Gold Cup competition.
Birchall the trailblazer
28 year-old Birchall is the club’s most capped player. The midfielder has now been picked on 25 occasions by Trinidad and Tobago.
