Wildes targets another promotion
Chairman Paul Wildes says the club has no plans to “consolidate” next season and will back Micky Adams in a bid to potentially get back-to-back promotions.
We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but we have no debts so let’s go for it…
Speaking after the draw with Northampton which all-but-guaranteed Vale will play next season in League One, Wildes said: “I truly believe we can go straight through the leagues.
“We should definitely be pushing for the play-offs next season. That’s where I want to be. You don’t want to be going into a season wanting to consolidate.
“We’ll go into it thinking we can push on, and we’ll give Micky Adams all the backing we can to make that happen.
“We want this club to keep going forward, and I’d say we’re as big a club as many in League One, so why not?
“Promotion is a big step and one we needed to take, but now we’ll look for the next one to take this club back to where it belongs.
“You could argue we’re bigger than a few of the clubs in the Championship at the moment in terms of fan base.
“You see 12,500 people here for the final game of the season and you think, ‘Yeh, this should be a club which is right up there’.
“We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but we have no debts so let’s go for it.”
