Police: man arrested after ‘hit and run’
Police have confirmed that a 27 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a hit and run incident before Vale’s game at Rochdale.
Two Port Vale supporters were injured – one seriously – after a car ploughed into a group of five supporters before the League Two game.
A 36-year-old man suffered a serious head injury and police described his condition as serious but stable. A 52-year-old man also suffered injuries to his arm and hip. Both men remain in hospital.
The incident happened on a mini-roundabout on Station Road, close to Rochdale fire station and Rochdale railway station at around 2.45pm.
A major investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances. The police are believed to be studying CCTV footage and have issued an appeal for witnesses.
