Wildes shows class with Bell gesture
A tweet from Port Vale chairman Paul Wildes has revealed that the co-owner will make a personal gesture of respect to the family of former chairman Bill Bell, who passed away this week.
As a mark of respect I’m not going to be sitting in the chairman’s seat tomorrow Bill Bell’s family will sit beside the seat he’d have sat in…
Bell was chairman of the club for 15 years, mostly during the managerial reign of John Rudge and he was widely credited with the redevelopment of the Vale Park ground. He passed away aged 81 earlier this week.
The club have already announced a minute’s silence and that the players will wear black armbands, while the Supporters Club held a minute’s applause at their AGM.
But the tweet from Wildes reveals that the current chairman will make another magnanimous gesture. It reads: “As a mark of respect I’m not going to be sitting in the chairman’s seat tomorrow Bill Bell’s family will sit beside the seat he’d have sat in.”
