McCombe all set to join Vale’s 200 club
Defender John McCombe should be celebrating a new achievement on Saturday – as he is all set to make his 200th senior Vale appearance against AFC Wimbledon.
The popular Pontefract-born centre-half made his 199th appearance for the Valiants on Saturday, three years and seven months after joining Vale on a free transfer following his release from Hereford United.
McCombe has the second-highest appearances for the club of this season’s squad – just behind Louis Dodds who has made 201 Vale appearances.
McCombe was voted the official player of the year in 2011 and was also joint-winner of the OVF player of the year for that season, alongside central defensive partner Gareth Owen.
