Steve Fox’s family thank Vale fans
The family of former winger Steve Fox, who is battling cancer, have thanked OVF users for their messages of support for the former Vale star.
This website has been collating messages of support from Vale fans since the devastating news broke that Fox may only have six months left to live.
A batch of comments was sent to the Fox family on Tuesday and Siobhan, the partner of Steve’s son Daniel told OVF: ” We have just received the messages from all of the Port Vale fans which you have so kindly put together. It is so lovely that he is so thought about.
“I have just read them out to Steve and he is really grateful of all the support. As you can understand at the moment it is very hard for us all, Just to say thank you very much for the kind words from fans we really appreciate your kind thoughts it means a lot to Steve.”
Unfortunately, Steve’s condition is still deteriorating but OVF will continue to send your messages of support. If you want to leave a message please leave a comment under this article and we will pass all the messages we receive on.
Steve’s family are also looking for any video footage of Steve’s career to give him a boost. OVF doesn’t have any video footage but we have collected a number of images from Steve’sVale career and we will be passing the photos onto Steve’s family. If you do have video footage please contact OVF site editor Rob Fielding ([email protected]).
Fox was signed on a free transfer from Wrexham in 1982 and proved to be a key player in the 1982-1983 promotion side. His tricky wingplay set up numerous chances for striker Bob Newton and when on song, Fox was practically unplayable. He fell out of favour in the following season and left to Chester City.
Rob Fielding, editor of OVF commented: “Steve Fox was one of my original Vale heroes. I am deeply saddened to hear of his battle against cancer and I will pass on all the good luck messages that we receive. Steve and his family are in our thoughts right now. All of us at OVF would like to pass on our best wishes.”

Dear Steve… I was so sorry to hear that you are struggling at the moment, but I wanted to wish you all the best in your battle. I send the best wishes of my family and I to you and yours.
Ha….. family, that includes my son Kevin, who is 29 now… he was due in April 1983, on the Friday that the Vale were away at Tranmere….. and where was I? like a good husband at my wife’s side? ha, no chance! I was at Tranmere watching you lads win 2-0, it’s a good job he was a week late, or you would have been responsible for me missing my firstborn’s birth!! You are remembered with fondness.
All the best mate… keep fighting
Dave

Steve was a real hero of mine. Part of the first vale side I ever watched that won promotion. Seem to remember a great goal that he scored at Tranmere near the end of the 1982/83 season. Fantastic memories !
Great times, never to be forgotten
In my thoughts

Never thought we’d find a winger good enough to replace Mark Chamberlain when he left, but we did and then some when Steve arrived. That promotion team was the most exciting Vale team I’ve ever watched and Steve was the diamond in the crown.
Keep fighting, keep shining and never give up hope. You’ll never be forgotten by Vale fans who saw you.
