Preferred bidders confident of completing deal on Tuesday
Norman Smurthwaite, who along with Paul Wildes is the preferred bidder to take over the club, has told the Sentinel that he expects to complete the takeover of Port Vale ahead of the game with Bristol Rovers.
The lawyers have confirmed the money is there and we’ll be travelling up to complete the deal…
Smurthwaite told the Sentinel: “We’ve now had verbal confirmation from the Football League, who have given us the green light as far as they are concerned.
“They said they had done all of their inquiries for the Fit and Proper Persons Test and are happy with everything they’ve received.
“They told me they’d be in a position to proceed within our time-scale, which is tomorrow, as our exclusivity on the deal runs out the next day.
“The lawyers have confirmed the money is there and we’ll be travelling up to complete the deal.
“My understanding is the share will be issued to the lawyers and, once that is done, the money will be sent to the administrator’s solicitors.
“I’m assuming it could take one or two hours to get everything finalised and we expect to be back in time to watch the match.”
