Two minute guide to: Wycombe
We take a look ahead to Vale’s next home game with a brief look at their opponents wycombe Wanderers.
Man to watch
OVF hopes that Port Vale fans will give Vale legend Gareth Ainsworth a hearty welcome to Vale Park, regardless of the result. Ainsworth has been in charge at Wycombe for five games, winning three, drawing one and losing one.
Other connections
Another Vale legend Steve Guppy has appeared for both clubs while other players include Sam Stockley, Martin Bullock, Chris Herd, Kevin Scott and Micky Bell.
Last time we met
The two sides fought out a 1-1 draw at Adams Park back in February 2011. A Leon Johnson own goal gave Vale the lead before Scott Donnelly equalised.
Overall record
It’s all-square. The two sides have met twelve times with five wins apiece and two draws.
Team news
The main issue for the Vale will be who will partner Chris Shuker in the centre of midfield. Mark Grew has suggested Darren Murphy could make his first start but Kingsley James, Louis Dodds and Richard Duffy are all possible contenders.
Striker Matt McClure could be in contention for a Wycombe return.
What they have said
“He’s in charge in a caretaker capacity and I’d love him to get the job full-time, but I don’t want him to get it because he gets a win at Vale Park. He’s a friend of mine, but that will go right out of the window at 3 o’clock tomorrow.”
– Mark Grew
“We’re not focusing on them, we are focusing on what we can do on Saturday and how we go about things. It’s going to be a tough game. The lads have got to be up for this one.”
– Gareth Ainsworth
