Murphy blow as reserves lose
Summer signing Darren Murphy had to be replaced after nineteen minutes as Vale’s reserves lost 1-0 to Morecambe on Wednesday.
Earlier this season, Vale have tended to include any fit first-team squad members who are not starting first-team games in their reserve side. But with Micky Adams hinting at possible changes to his starting line-up it was interesting to note that Ryan Burge, Ben Williamson and Rob Taylor were not included in the Reserves squad for this match.
Midfielder Murphy was one of six first-team squad members to start the game, but he had to be replaced by Whieldon nineteen minutes in.
Vale’s best chances of the game came from Ryan Lloyd, Luke Beesley and Ryan Croft while the winning goal came from Morecambe trialist Adam Dawson six minutes before the end of the game.
Vale: Johnson; Evans, Morris, James, Owen; Davis, Croft (Davies 61), Murphy (Whieldon 19), Marland; Beesley, Lloyd.
Subs not used: Boot, Price, Pryor.
