Vale set to make three more signings?
BBC Radio Stoke has indicated that Port Vale are set to add three new players to their squad.
According to the radio station, former Crewe defender David Artell is set to seal a move to Vale on Friday, talks are ongoing with an experienced League Two goalkeeper while striker Liam Dickinson is expected to join later in the summer following his expected recovery from injury.
31 year-old Artell has made over 400 first-team appearances. He is currently studying for a degree in forensic biology. 26 year-old Dickinson has scored 66 goals in 166 starts (plus 71 sub appearances). He was a graphic designer before turning to football.
Artell’s move is a little surprising with Vale seemingly requiring a left-back more urgently than a centre-half.
The Valiants are well stocked in central defence with Gareth Owen, John McCombe, Clayton McDonald and Joe Davis already under contract.
Dickinson would be seen as a direct replacement for the departed Marc Richards.
The striker has been linked with the Valiants several times in the past and despite interest from other clubs, he has indicated he wishes to move closer to Manchester to be closer to his family.
Vale are in the market for a keeper to replace Stuart Tomlinson and Chris Martin who have both left the club. They have been linked with Shrewsbury pair Chris Neal and Ben Smith.
