Reports in the Sentinel claim that defender John McCombe and striker Tom Pope are set to agree new contracts with the club.
McCombe and Pope are two of six players who yet to make a decision on contracts offered by the club. The others are youngsters Joe Davis and Ryan Lloyd, Kingsley James and goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson.
If McCombe and Pope sign deals it will be a major fillip for the Valiants, who will be unable to bring new players into the club until Keith Ryder’s bid is eventually approved by the Football League.
McCombe, the OVF player of the year for 2011 has been a mainstay of the Vale defence, while Pope, the joint OVF player of the year for last season has played the majority of games upfront.
