Richards ‘is top of Chesterfield’s wanted list’
The Sheffield Star newspaper claims that Port Vale striker Marc Richards is Chesterfield’s top summer target.
Richards is out of contract and has already been linked with a number of other clubs.
The 29 year-old is now reportedly Chesterfield’s number one target after club Chairman Dave Allen said the club needed a “twenty goal striker.”
Marc Richards stands in ninth place in the club’s all-time goalscoring charts with 74 goals. He needs five more goals to move level with Harry Poole in eighth place.
Richards is also believed to be interesting Rotherham United, Shrewsbury Town, Northampton Town and at least one Scottish club.
However, Vale assistant manager Mark Grew said that the club would offer Richards the “best possible deal” to try and persuade him to stay at Vale Park.
Richards has been top scorer at the Valiants for four seasons in a row and hit seventeen goals last season despite missing the early part through injury and suspension.
