In-demand Richards is ‘keeping his options open’
The Derbyshire Times newspaper claims that Marc Richards has had two meetings with Chesterfield officials over a move to the B2net stadium, but the striker is still keeping his options open.
The newspaper links the out-of-contract Vale striker with Rotherham, Bradford, Northampton and League One sides Preston, Crawley and Shrewsbury. Recently, Sky Sports linked Richards with up to a dozen clubs.
Richards has scored 75 goals for Vale from 180 starts (plus 22 sub appearances)
The paper adds that Richards is settled in Rugeley and that he is looking for the deal that suits him and his family the best.
Richards has been top-scorer at Vale Park for the last four seasons and Vale have been in talks with the player in a bid to persuade him to stay with the Valiants.
Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner confirmed that talks had been held with a quality player and he hoped a new man would sign before the end of the week. But Turner also asked Chesterfield fans to be patient and said it was all ‘in the lap of the gods.’
Reports elsewhere have suggested that Richards will make a decision on his future by the end of this week.
