Port Vale 0-4 Morecambe
Port Vale 0-4 Morecambe: Micky Adams’ side failed to score for the first time this season as an awful Valints performance handed Morecambe a deserved 4-0 away win.
Adams named an unchanged line-up after his side’s 3-0 win over Northampton Town.
After a scrappy opening, the visitors had a strong shout for a penalty after Taylor’s challenge in the box but Vale survived. Then Vale went close as Kozluk’s deflected shot took a deflection and went just wide.
But it was the visitors who took the lead when poor defending allowed veteran striker Price to collect the rebound off Tomlinson and open the scoring on the half-hour mark. Morecambe continued to press and score a deserved second goal when Alessandra scored on 38 minutes.
Vale could have pulled one back when Pope flicked the ball on for Rigg, but the striker should have done better with his effort.
Vale made changes but to little effect. Tom Pope offered the greatest threat and came closest in the final third as he forced Roche into a fine save.
But the visitors wrapped it up late on as Chilvers fouled in the box and Wilson made no mistake from the spot. Then Fleming rubbed salt in the wounds with a fourth in the closing minutes.
And it could have been five if Tomlinson had not pulled off a good save at the end.
It was a poor performance by Vale who deserved to lose and also suffered injuries to Marc Richards and sub Andrew Little.
