The Valiants surged into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Shaun Brisley (his first for the club) and a double from Tom Pope. However, with Vale 3-1 up Mitch Clark was sent off in the closing minutes for a high tackle and the home side netted again in the dying moments to make it 3-2. In a nail-biting ending, striker Tom Pope was then dismissed for a second yellow but Vale clung on to claim all three points.
