Port Vale manager John Askey has hailed new signing Jordan Archer.
Archer scored after coming on as a sub in Vale’s 2-1 Football League Trophy win over Shrewsbury Town and impressed during his first 30 minutes of Vale action.

Askey told the media: “Jordan has pace as we saw. He can put people under pressure. He has quite a knack of scoring, as he showed tonight. There are parts of his game that he needs to work on but he gives us another option.”
Askey was pleased with the performance of a much changed Vale side adding: “The pleasing thing is we have made so many changes and the players who have come in have played well.
“The team started really well then lost their way a little bit in the first half, but in the second half we came out and showed what we can do. It is really pleasing to see the whole squad who are now performing.
“The main thing was to get fitness from them and hopefully a good performance. I think overall we got that.”
The Vale manager also singled out recent signing Callum Evans who made his full debut in a midfield role commenting: “I thought Callum Evans was excellent, he has hardly played for a while.”
