Weekly digest – transfer talk and news continues to dominate this week…
What is this feature?
Over the summer weeks, we will present a digest of selected news stories and views from the the last week.
What they are saying on the forum…
“It’d be nice to recruit some out and out winger(s) with a bit of pace and trickery, to provide an alternative threat going forward to what we currently have, but, as we know, these players are in demand and cost money…”
Guitar Ray on the Who Should We Sign thread
“They can turn out in skins as far as I’m concerned as long as they play well and win a few. Actually, that’s given me an idea – how much would it cost for the club badge to be inked onto everyone’s chest? Might cause a problem if they’re transferred but not our problem...”

Some OVF exclusives
This week, to counter the regular Cult Heroes features on OVF, we launched the Port Vale Hall of Shame which “celebrates” some of the worst signings made by the club. Here are the first articles in the series:
Number One: Steve Cherry
A then-rookie keeper who played a central role in one of the worst Port Vale FA Cup defeats in the club’s history.
Number Two: Martin Henderson
A Scottish striker who replaced a fans’ favourite during a simply awful relegation season for the football club.
Number Three: Lawrie Wilson
A right-back who promised much when signed in the summer but sadly failed to deliver on the pitch itself.
