Earlier today, it was revealed that the much publicised proposed loan move for Lee Hughes was turned down because, as the Nottingham Evening Post claimed, Vale were too late in submitting the required paperwork.
The Evening Post claimed that: “The Magpies completed the paperwork for the deal. They have even signed Chris Iwelumo on loan from Watford until the new year to replace him. But Vale did not submit the final paperwork to the Football League before the loan deadline at 5pm yesterday so the League has this morning blocked the move.”
News that the Lee Hughes move was off was also confirmed via a statement from the official Notts County website.
Now, the official Port Vale website has issued a brief statement saying “Following a meeting of the Football League Appeals Committee this morning, Port Vale’s attempt to bring in an additional two loan players has been rejected.”
The statement confirms that the loan signing of Liam Chilvers was approved and he will be in the matchday squad, but there are no details of who the other loanees were nor the reason for the League rejecting them.
However, a club spokesman then told the Sentinel: “These deals were put together very late in the day and we were working to an extremely tight schedule. Unfortunately, due to a number of circumstances, the club missed the Football League deadline by three minutes.”
The news that Vale missed the loan deadline on not one, but two occasions, is bound to spark criticism from Port Vale fans.
Many supporters will be dismayed to read that the club have missed out on two opportunities to increase Micky Adams options, as the team attempt to stay in the promotion picture.
