Port Vale Supporters Club have announced a partnership with Blackpool Supporters Trust as efforts to change the club’s ownership continue.
Blackpool are celebrating the very welcome news that the Oyston family have had their connections with their club severed. Blackpool fans were involved in a long-running campaign to remove their controversial and hugely unpopular owners.
In contrast, Port Vale Supporters Club have only recently opted to take action against owner Norman Smurthwaite after fans agreed with a vote of no confidence in the owner. Supporters are unhappy with the way the club has lurched towards the relegation zone after a series of poor managerial appointments, PR gaffes and little evidence of transfer and TV revenue being reinvested into the playing squad. A £3.5m bid from local business Synectics Solutions was recently turned down.
The Vale Supporters Club are therefore getting advice from Blackpool fans on how to effectively manage a protest campaign against a club owner.
An email from Supporters Club chair Mark Porter said: “We have now partnered with Blackpool supporters’ trust and will use them as mentors in our current situation. We look forward to hearing about their campaign against the Oystons and how they arrived at their good news that we saw recently.”
As a result of the partnership, Blackpool Supporters chair and deputy chair Christine Seddon and Tony Wilkinson will be present at the next Port Vale Supporters Club meeting. This will be held on the 28th March 7.30pm at the Burslem Golf Club.
