Our latest two minute guide looks at Port Vale’s second away league fixture of the season…
Pre-match talking points

After two poor performances, it was a relief when Luke Hannant’s goal earned Vale a home victory over Crawley. However, victory did come at a price with Manny Oyeleke (right) set to miss this game through injury. Veteran Antony Kay is probably favourite to come in to replace the injured midfielder.
Carlisle picked up a useful 1-0 away win over Cheltenham Town at the weekend. The Cumbrians’ main injury doubt is Kelvin Etuhu who suffered a head wound during the game.
Quotes
“Any game away from home in this league is a tough game. You have to say over the last few years on our travels, we’ve not won enough games and certainly we need to start picking up points away from home as quickly as possible. It’s an opporunity, but Carlisle have had a good away win on Saturday so they’ll be coming into the game confident. But we have to raise our level of performance up from Saturday and a great deal from the Colchester game…”
Port Vale manager Neil Aspin
“Port Vale are a solid League Two club. They recruited quite a few players in the summer and they’ve had a decent start. It will be a tough game, as every game is in this league, and we know we’ll need to be on our game to get anything out of it. Their squad obviously includes an old face in Joycey who we’ll see coming back. I actually spoke to him this morning and he’s looking forward to it. I told him we’ll roll out the red carpet for him because he’s a bit of a Carlisle legend. He was great for this club but I think he’s thoroughly enjoying his time down there…”
Carlisle’s Gary Liddle
Man in charge
The well-travelled John Sheridan has been in management since 2001 in a career that has taken in no fewer than five spells at Oldham. This is his first stop at Carlisle with him replacing Keith Curle in 2018.
