Port Vale keeper Sam Johnson was in goal as AFC Halifax Town sealed promotion to the National League at the weekend.
Johnson has been out on loan all season – for the first-half of the season he spent a spell with Gateshead but after losing his place he switched to AFC Halifax, a club where he had enjoyed a previous loan spell.
Johnson made twenty two appearances for Halifax including playing the full ninety minutes in the club’s National League North play-off win over Chorley.
However, the 24 year-old is out of contract in the summer and after failing to secure a first-team spot, Johnson is expected to leave. Vale well-stocked with young goalkeepers thanks to the likes of Ryan Boot, Harry Pickering and Joe Slinn all being on professional deals.
At least Sam can leave Vale Park with a promotion under his belt.
