The Port Vale chairman took to Twitter after the FA Cup defeat to Exeter, saying the “buck stops with me” and that it is a “very sad day” for the club.
Following Vale’s poor performance, there has been much speculation about the future of manager Rob Page but Smurthwaite also hinted at questions about his own future at the club.
