The Valiants have suffered a massive blow with the news that striker and top scorer Marc Richards has left to join League Two rivals Chesterfield.
Richards, arguably Vale’s most prized asset, has agreed a two-year deal with the Spireites.
Marc Richards reached ninth place in the club’s all-time goalscoring charts with 75 goals during a five year stay with the club.
Micky Adams now faces a huge task to replace a striker who was the club’s top scorer for the last four seasons running.
The 30 year-old forward is the third Valiant to leave the club in recent days following the departures of Anthony Griffith (Leyton Orient) and Sean Rigg (Oxford United).
