Port Vale striker Ben Waine was 77th substitute as his New Zealand side lost 4-0 to Haiti in a friendly as part of their build-up for the World Cup finals.
The match was played at the Chase Stadium, Florida where the New Zealand side are preparing for the 2026 World Cup. The Kiwis were 1-0 down at the break but conceded three more goals in the second-half. Waine’s side will now face England in a friendly on Saturday.
The striker is poised to join Chris Birchall as only the second current Port Vale player to take part in the World Cup finals. Birchall also played against England, albeit that was in a group game rather than a friendly.
Port Vale Internationals are a rare sight with the club only recording 18 full Internationals in its existence. Waine is one of just six players to score a goal for his country while a Vale player. His seventh cap takes him up to joint third in the Port Vale appearances table.
