Port Vale have announced their retained list which sees Funso Ojo released alongside Ben Heneghan.
There are eleven players released while Ben Garritty has been offered a new deal. Onel Hernandez has been invited to join summer training
Meanwhile Rico Richards, Marko Marosi, Jordan Shipley and Ruari Paton arec transfer listed
It has been a hugely disappointing season for the Valiants which saw manager Darren Moore replaced by Jon Brady and the side relegated to League Two.
34 year-old Ojo joined the club in 2022 and he made 116 appearances, scoring six times. He also spent a spell on loan at Shrewsbury Town during the 2024-25 promotion season.
29 year-old Garrity has been hit with injuries in recent seasons. He was twice voted player of the year and helped the club to two promotions. He totalled 198 appearances, scoring 30 goals.
Andre Gray, Tyler Magloire and Grant Ward all joined the side in January as free agents.

Well we could do with getting rid of a few more on the retained list, I really don’t know some of them were signed in the first place.I hope Hanandez signs for us he gets better every time he plays
Pretty much as you’d expect as far as I can see. Boomer now the only available keeper.
Mixed bag , Leaving the Club with No Keepers. ✋️✋️⚽️
Gobsmacked Byers Garrity Stockley retained while i think Heneghan would have been ideal for div 2 will be amazed if the club receives any bids for Shipley however I wish all those leaving Vale ali the best for the future & the most skillful player albeit was very fleeting Hernandez what is his destiney
It’s done to Paton, hernedez etc to prove their worth to Brady.
Suprised at heneghan, not the others
WTF is GOING ON with Richards. The most talented forward player on the books. No goalkeepers if Marosi goes and sad to see Paton probably going. As for Shipley if he goes nobody will lose any sleep. Hernandez should be offered contract t cos he will make league 2 defenders sh1t themselves. Time will tell , but I do wonder sometimes what the he’ll is happening to the club we ❤️
Surprised Amos and Ojo released, saddened but not surprised Clarke, Deborah and Henegan released. Let’s hope Paton shows Brady what he is capable of and Hernandez gets fit and signs for us despite the interest that will be shown by others. It’s now down to Brady to recruit positively and Carol to make sure he has the finance to get who he wants
For me Ojo is the big surprise, and I would have liked Clark to have stayed but that was never going to happen. We really do need to get rid of Byers if possible. It’s not good for team spirit when one guy is on 3or4 times the wage of the rest of the squad, and is hardly ever match fit. It does give Brady the chance to bring in 10 of his own players. Good luck to the new incoming Financial Manage, even if his wage will add to the club’s losses. Can anyone tell me what Hancock does? He seems to have no responsibilities whatsoever!!
how can this manager retain G Byers he has played very few games and is our highest wage earner OZO IS VERY FIT FOR IS AGE AND HAS TRIED HARD AND PLAYED MANY GAMES I GIVE UP THE MANAGER COULD OR WOULD NOT TELL US BYERS INJURY
Alan, he had little choice as Moore signed him on a long term contract and he’s still got a year left. It would cost a fortune to pay him off. As for details of injuries, while frustrating for fans the club seems to think giving details could offer opponents and advantage so are keeping quiet on how long players are out for and the reason. I would agree, by the way, that we have a very expensive, injury prone player but I don’t see how this manager is to blame – he didn’t agree the contract with the player.
What people fail to take into account is the players wishes too. Some will want to go, family, location, other issues, better deals elsewhere etc. Its not always up to the club. York for example will have a bigger budget than us. An unhappy player does not mean he hates the club, just that sometimes things don’t always work out as planned. That’s life. And Byers, well he was signed by Moore and suggest we just get on with it, stop moaning and hope he is fit. A fit and happy Byers will be a benefit for sure. He will not take a pay reduction. Its not Brady’s fault either. He has inherited a calamity of contract issues with some players he cannot wriggle out of. Fingers crossed he blends a good mix of fit players as continuity will bring us success. UTV.
Of the retained they’re all capable on their day but most have too many poor games they have to produce to a higher standard more consistently and they should all be good enough for League 2. Of the released probly Debrah and Clark having performed well on loan should be ok the rest will struggle to carry on playing professional football. Transfer listed only Paton will get a move the other 3 need to find work outside of football. As for being without a keeper the ones we had weren’t good enough so good to get rid. The loans barring Archers free kicks were all absolutely useless. Overall, good clear out for me alot of garbage gone now let’s see if mistakes of the past are heeded and we have a far better approach to type of players that can bring success.
