Port Vale manager Jon Brady was characteristically blunt as he summed up Port Vale’s 2-0 home loss to League One champions Lincoln City.
The Valiants lost their final game of the season after conceding a goal early on in each half.
We have to raise our standards. The ones who stay, I am looking at them to raise the standards because that quality is not good enough for what we need…
Brady told the media: “As much as we tried, we couldn’t really raise a gallop today. That’s seven games in nineteen days and we looked flat. We gifted them both goals to be honest. And, as hard as we tried, they are really good at closing things out.
“We had one disallowed and had a few efforts that were very tame. Martin (Sherif) was leaning back and should score. But overall you could see why they are champions. We have to raise our standards. The ones who stay, I am looking at them to raise the standards because that quality is not good enough for what we need.”
