Port Vale’s performances in the three cup competitions means the club has now banked over £1m in prize money and TV revenue.
The Valiants have played fourteen cup games so far this season. Their run to the quarter-final stages of the Football League Trophy banked them £105,000. Their run in the League Cup (and in particular the TV revenue for the Arsenal tie) banked a further £132,000.
Meanwhile, their memorable run to the FA Cup quarter-finals has already banked them £854,250 (presuming the quarter-final is televised) even if they lose their next game. If Vale manage to win in the quarter-finals their total could push the total past £1.5m plus the proceeds from a televised Wembley semi-final.
This revenue doesn’t include gate receipts (nor the amount Vale received for their televised second round game against Fleetwood in the FA Cup) and one thing is for sure – income aside, the memories it has created are priceless.

Given their damaging league form, Vale’s 11 wins in 14 Cup games this season is remarkable. The financial rewards must be a huge bonus to the club, counting the cost of likely relegation and possibly reduced ticket sales for next season. It would be interesting to know what the “undisclosed fees” were for selling Cole and Curtis in the January window. Surely it must have been in excess of £250K.
You’ve done Mr Hancock’s job for him, but no doubt by the time he’s explained it to us, none of it will make any sense and we will have made another £3:5 million lose !
