Port Vale manager Jon Brady felt his team did well to reduce the home side to “no shots on target” as they took a 1-0 away win back from their visit to the Sixfields stadium.
Vale won 1-0 thanks to a late first-half strike from Jayden Stockley although Vale also had a couple of other chances to increase their lead.
I think it was two teams lacking in confidence really but I am pleased to get the three points…
Brady said: “Jayden’s finish was brilliant and then I thought we were really strong to close the game out. We did have other chances – Martin (Sherif) got in quite early on a 1 v 1 and I felt he should have finished to be honest.”
However, Brady was still pleased with the team performance adding: “I think it was two teams lacking in confidence really but I am pleased to get the three points. We reduced them to no shots on target throughout the whole match. We stood up to the physical challenge. ot giving them any shots on target is a testament to our players.”
The Vale boss also paid tribute to defender Ben Heneghan who was forced off early with a head injury commenting: “He’s clashed heads with McGeehan who I managed here and is a strong boy as well. Ben has put himself on the line and he had to come off because he was feeling a bit groggy.”

Lets not get carried away Northampton were a poor side and whilst it was a better second half some of vales passing and control of the ball was poor too especially archer brilliant one minute next doesnt know what to do but take the win and move on could do with away games for the next month might dry pitch out
Never seen home fan’s hug &warmly shake hands or high five the opponents manager like Northampton fan’s did to their x manger now hopefully our messiah as for the much maligned by Myself Mr Stockley not only caused problems up front he scored a super goal then became our best defender before being subbed long may he continue to make me look a fool !!! Just a thought can anyone tell me what’s happened to Jack Shorrock who can’t get a look in with DM &now the Messiah seemingly determined to ruin a great young prospects carrer such a shame anyway onwards and upwards hopefully. The most important fact was Vale chalked up 3 points, the game was very poor and lacked quality, we failed on numerous occasions to get the ball under control and at times our first touch was abysmal to say the least. Northampton didn’t add anything special either and so our one strike on target was enough to take the points. It gives us a glimmer of hope but if that is the best we can do we are going to fall short of escaping relegation. Let’s see how we do on Saturday against a better team before we get too excited. All we can do is keep believing. UTV
Really satisfying to get the win. It was poor opposition and against a better side we probably would have drawn. That being said our players fought and seemed structured. Of course we are going down, but if our players play like this and turn dead cert losses into draws and victories then nobody can complain. Kyle John as the captain makes a lot of sense, and in league 2, I think he will instill the work ethic we need. I only just looked at goal scored and goals against, and it appears that our goals against makes us a mid table team, but our goals scored is truly abysmal. That is ultimately the problem really.
