O’Connor in charge at Glenavon
Former Port Vale midfielder Michael O’Connor has taken over from long-serving boss Darren Mullen at Irish League side Glenavon. It is O’Connor’s first managerial post although he has been coaching for several seasons. O’Connor made 76 appearances, scoring 12 times in a two year spell at Vale Park.
Vincent had a spell with Cheltenham
O’Connor isn’t the only former player to dip his toes into management. Former winger Ashley Vincent was put in interim charge of League Two Cheltenham Town following the dismissal of Michael Flynn. Vincent has now stepped down following the Robins appointment of Steve Cotterill as their new manager. The winger spent a single season with the Valiants, winning promotion in 2012.
Pugh appointed Leek boss
And in a hat-trick for former Vale players, ex-midfielder Danny Pugh has been appointed the manager of Leek Town. Pugh had two spells as caretaker manager at Vale Park as well as making over fifty appearances as a player.
