Port Vale manager Darren Moore was in diplomatic mood when he was asked to discuss the performance of the match officials after the draw with Northampton Town.
The officials were the subject of much criticism from the fans after a string of contentious decisions.
Speaking to the media, Moore said: “It is a frustrating time when you probably feel certain decisions will go your way and they don’t. As a manager I have to control my words but also just let the fans do the talking for me. I think they did with how they saw the game. It was difficult conditions for him today and split-second decisions. You are hoping the referee gets more of them right over the course of the game.”
However, the manager also felt the blustery conditions contributed to a drab draw adding: “But I want to talk about the conditions because it wasn’t easy for the players today. Credit to them. It’s another clean sheet and we showed another side to our game – that we can battle and scrap when the game is not quite going quite our way.
“When I walked on between both sets of players at the end, they were thanking each other for the game but also talking about the conditions. Without a doubt, 90 per cent of this game was dictated by the weather. The swirling wind is one of the worst conditions for any sport other than sailing!”
