Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph says that Plymouth Argyle have triggered Port Vale striker Lorent Tolaj’s release clause with a £1.2m bid.
Should the move go ahead it would the third highest in the club’s history behind Gareth Ainsworth’s £2m move to Wimbledon and Jon McCarthy’s £1.5m move to Birmingham City.
Joseph tweeted that:
Plymouth Argyle have triggered the £1.2m release clause for Port Vale striker Lorent Tolaj. #PAFC are on the hunt for a striker before the September 1 transfer deadline.

Plymouth are apparently keen to add a forward after missing out on Dale Taylor and Rumarn Burrell earlier in the window.
After a slow start, Tolaj has blossomed at Vale Park. Signed for an undisclosed fee from Aldershot in the summer of 2024, he finished last season as the club’s top-scorer as the Valiants won promotion. He has scored once in four appearances this season.
There is no indication that the move will take place but should it, it would leave the Valiants short of forward options with Jayden Stockley and Ruari Paton both injured.

Let him go
Lack of ambition by the club, both Stockley and Paton injured and little experienced cover. Talented player who will be difficult to replace.
Not convinced that is good business for Vale, we are already struggling to score goals and we sell who is possibly our best attacker, hopefully we have a suitable replacement ready and waiting. It could be a long season. Keep the faith, Up the Vale
Further to my previous comments. Early in the week the manager said that Stockley and Paton just ad niggles during training. Now Stockley is going to be out for weeks. There is poor communication from the manager to the supporters. What is going on our great club.
Hopefully the gaffer has a suprise signing up his sleeve. Tolage has to do whst he feels is right for him. I wish him all the best.
It’s obvious that we need another striker in the side we don’t want to lose a striker , if we have injured players then get another player in before the transfer window closes.
My understanding of release clause’s, is that once the value is matched, the purchasing club can approach the player for terms. It takes the negotiations away from the selling club. Vale obviously want to keep Tolaj but are not able do a lot when the release price is met by the buying club and the player wishes to move.
