Port Vale first faced Rotherham United in 1929 – here are press clippings of a match preview and a match report on the game.

Notes: the Valiants had previously faced Rotherham County in the League in the early 1920s. Rotherham United were formed after a merger of Rotherham County and Rotherham Town in 1925 and the sides first met in the 1929-30 season. That season proved to be a fantastic one for the Valiants as they won the Third Division North title at the end of the campaign.
