Port Vale manager Darren Moore says giant centre-half Alex Iacovitti is “fine” and is “getting some extra work in” after he missed out on the club’s opening friendly games.
The absence of Iacovitti has fueled some speculation about his future at the club but Moore says the player is fit and wasn’t involved in the games against Newcastle Town and Kidsgrove Athletic because he was putting in some extra work off the pitch.
Moore told the club’s media team: “Yak’s not injured at all. He’s just getting some volume of work in before he’s integrated back in. He’s fine.”
Iacovitti was brought in from Ross County last summer and still has a year remaining on his contract with the club. He played 38 games, scoring once as the club were relegated from League One last season.
The Vale boss was also pleased with the two games played over the weekend adding: “It’s been a solid week. A tough week but you expect it. It’s all about the fitness. I thought they were two excellent work outs.”
