Interim manager Andy Crosby says the team still have much to learn for next season but said he was happy that the team are now safe in League One.
Results elsewhere saw Vale stay up despite a 3-2 loss at Charlton Athletic at the weekend.
I have just said to the players in there that for us to develop as a football club you can’t continue to concede a goal-and-a-half a game…
Crosby told the media: “That was the remit – taking over before the Ipswich game – to make sure that we secured League One football. It is credit to everyone concerned that we have done that, it was our primary goal at the start of the season to make sure that we are playing League One next season.”
However, he also pointed out: “I have just said to the players in there that for us to develop as a football club you can’t continue to concede a goal-and-a-half a game, you end up in real trouble doing that. Individuals have to learn very quickly that that won’t be acceptable going forward and if they are not capable of doing that, then they won’t stay at the football club too long”
