Which Port Vale players are in and out of contract at the end of the season?

In recent months, Port Vale have failed to disclose the length of player contracts making it a guessing game as to who’s staying and who’s going at the end of the season.

Here’s the players we do know about and some guesses…

Exiting Vale Park

All the loan players will leave the club at the end of the season. That list is:

• Goalkeeper Jack Stevens (under contract at Oxford until 2025)
• Defender Aaron Donnelly (contract status undisclosed)
• Forward Dennis Politic (believed to be out of contract at Cremonese this summer)
• Forward Mipu Odubeko (contract status undisclosed)
• Forward Matty Taylor (believed to be out of contract at Oxford Utd this summer)
• Forward Danny Butterworth (believed to be out of contract at Blackburn Rovers this summer)
• (winger Liam McCarron is still listed on some squad lists but is believed to have returned to his parent club in 2022)

Will the Valiants move to add any of the out of contract players on permanent deals?

Under contract at Vale Park

These are the players that we know are in contract

• Goalkeeper Aidan Stone (signed deal till 2024 at start of season)
• Defender Nathan Smith (signed a new contract this month)
• Midfielder Tommy McDermott (signed a long-term contract last summer)
• Winger James Plant (signed a new contract this month)
• Captain Tom Conlon (signed a contract until 2024)

These are the players we think will be under contract

• Ellis Harrison (signed during the season likely to be a long-term deal)
• Funso Ojo (signed at start of the season likely to be a two year deal)
• Gavin Massey (signed at start of the season likely to be a two year deal)
• Will Forrester (signed at start of the season likely to be a long-term deal)
• Lewis Cass (signed at start of the season likely to be a long-term deal)

Out of contract at Vale Park

Players who we know to be out of contract are:

• Sammy Robinson (signed an 18 month deal in 2021)
• Ben Garrity (deal announced as up to 2023 when he signed in 2021)
• James Wilson (deal announced as up to 2023 when he signed in 2021)
• Dan Jones (deal announced as up to 2023 when he signed in 2021)
• Tom Pett (deal announced as up to 2023 when he signed in 2021)
• Mal Benning (signed a one year extension at start of this season)

Players who we think will be out of contract

• David Worrall (signed a contract extension last summer but how long for?)
• Rory Holden (signed short-term deal at start of season)
• Derek Agyakwa (signed short-term deal at start of season)

Obviously we don’t know if any of the above have extension clauses.
