Andy Crosby and Tom Pett praised the Port Vale’s team attitude as they battled to a 2-0 Football League Trophy win over Wolves B.
The Valiants had to wait for late goals from Mal Benning and Mipo Odubeko to win the tie 2-0. It was a result that saw them top their group with three wins and three cleansheets.
The Vale now go into the knock-out stages in good form and it’s no inconceivable that the club could have a good run in the competition. If you want to check the odds for the Valiants or for any other sporting competition why not try out our friends at najlepsibukmacherzy.pl/
Here’s the reaction…
Tom Pett – we stuck to our gameplan
The gaffer set us the challenge at the start of the night to go and finish top of the group and get a home draw in the next round, we have done that and to get a good performance for the 90 plus minutes was professional.
I think in this day and age, young pros are all technically so sound and we watched the clips of Wolves U21s as we would do with any team and we knew they would be good on the ball and quick on the counter attack, but it was about how we could hurt them with the ball and that was probably the difference.
“We stuck to our gameplan, got there in the end with the two goals and the only frustration is that it wasn’t more from our perspective with some good football out there.
On his return from injury:
I had a little injury after the Barnsley game that put me back a little bit and to be fair TC, Ben, Funso and Brad have all been playing really well. So you have to wait your turn, train well and when you get the chance – like tonight – let the gaffer know that I am ready and waiting.
Andy Crosby – a well-deserved win
We spoke pre-game about the rewards this competition brings. It brings game time to players who aren’t perhaps featuring in league games and gives them a chance to prove something. Every time you go out onto the pitch it gives you chance to promote a message to the manager.
The bigger picture is that we want to go all the way in this competition and go back to Wembley so it was a good night, three wins out of three, three clean sheets, more game time and goals for attacking players.
Well done to Wolves, they set up with a low block, sacrificed the ball and looked to play on the transition from deep but we stuck at it, kept moving the ball, and eventually wore them down and it was a well-deserved win.
