OVF founder Rob Fielding is taking part in the 2021 virtual London Marathon on 2021 and raising money for three charities.
Fielding took part in the 2019 London Marathon. He misssed out in the ballot for the official race this year but the London Marathon is allowing runners who missed out to take part and run a “virtual” marathon. Runners will run the same distance but in their local area. The event is officially recognised by the London event organisers and on submission of evidence of having run the distance, the participants will receive a medal for completing the marathon distance.
Rob is running in his local area – setting off from hilly (gulp) High Wycombe and running on the A4010 across to Princes Risborough where he’ll resupply with fluids and gels from his car. He’ll then run the Phoenix Trail, a former railway line, to Thame and onwards on the A418 heading towards Oxford. He’ll then turn around and complete the 26.2 miles at Princes Risborough train station.
Rob is running to raise funds for three charities which are:
- Dougie Mac (a local institution, Dougie Mac is a Stoke-on-Trent hospice which also incorporates the Donna Louise Trust children’s hospice)
- Port Vale Foundation Trust (a great cause connected to Port Vale FC, the Foundation runs health, education and inclusion events in the local community)
- Rennie Grove (a charity providing specialist care and support for adults and children with life-limiting illnesses in the Aylesbury area)
The three cover three important elements of Rob’s life – his birthplace, his football team and his current home. All three have been contacted and are very happy for Rob to fundraise for them. Money raised will be divided equally between the three.
Rob will be running in a custom running top, in the Port Vale colours of black, white and gold.
