Kevin Horlock says the pressure is off his side as they prepare to take on Port Vale in the first round of the FA Cup.
The Maldon and Tiptree manager is in charge of the first round’s lowest ranked team and says his side have nothing to lose in the televised clash.
Horlock told BBC Radio Suffolk: “I’m fully aware that we’ll have to have the best game we’ve ever had and will probably need them to underperform, and a little bit of luck. You never know in the FA Cup – the biggest thing for me is that it is a free hit, we’re not going to be favourites to win that game, so we can go there and enjoy it.”
The Valiants will need to be aware of the threat of their opponents, who contain several players with extensive Football League experience in their ranks. Horlock added: “In my managerial career, they (the experienced players) are the easy ones to manage because they know what it takes, they know how to prepare. That’s the reason we brought them in – one, their quality but two, to handle the pressure because we have got a target on our backs, people are looking at us to fail.”
The game at Vale Park on the 2nd November will be screened live on TNT Sports.
