Two local media outlets have claimed that Port Vale are trying to land a Championship striker.
According to Reading Today journalist Andy Preston, Vale are competing with Reading FC for the signature of Devante Cole. The newspaper says:
Reading FC are among the clubs competing for the signature of Devante Cole this summer. The Royals are in desperate need of adding to their attacking options and are keen on signing the 30-year-old. However, they are facing competition from other League One clubs, including Port Vale, who were promoted from League Two last season.
It is a similar story in the Birmingham Express and Star where journalist Jonny Drury says:
Now according to fresh reports, Darren Moore’s Port Vale have emerged as a potential front runner to land Cole.
Vale already have Jayden Stockley, Lorent Tolaj, Ruari Paton and summer signing Ben Waine as forward options but Cole would be a proven League One performer to add to the ranks. Cole is rumoured to be on the way out from current club West Brom. However, this is only a rumour and wage demands plus interest from other clubs could see the striker move elsewhere.
Cole’s last two seasons in League One were with Barnsley when he scored fifteen and eighteen League goals respectively.
