This is advance notice that the OVF website will be moving to a new, improved server later this month.
What’s this update about?
OVF is hosted on a server. This one is reaching the end of its life and cannot cope with our (nearly 30 years old) site which due to its age has tens of thousands of files. The software on the server is also out of date and is no longer supported. This is why we had some crashes recently.
Our tech guru has sourced a new server which is going to make the site more stable. It will be running on brand-new software and also not be as expensive as the current server. It’s a winner all round.
He has moved a duplicate of the OVF website over to the new server and we are now testing it for any errors. Once all the errors have been spotted and corrected we will swop the live website over to the new server.
How this will effect you?
We will need to close the site for a couple of days this month (November) to do this. We will do it when there’s no Vale game (so midweek during a week with no midweek games) and we’ll give you all plenty of notice. Once done, we should have an OVF website fit for many years to come. So, please keep an eye out for further notices on when the website will be closed to allow this migration.
