Reaction: both managers praise Port Vale’s performance after win over Chesterfield
Managers Darren Moore and Paul Cook praised the performance of the Port Vale side after their 1-0 win over Chesterfield.
The Valiants may have scored more in the game with both bosses saying the home side were worthy winners of the 1-0 clash.
Darren Moore (Port Vale manager)
On goalscorer Ethan Chislett
“I thought the timing of his (Chislett’s) run, to come in off that side and present himself a clear run on goal, (was excellent) but then you’ve got to have the composure as well to finish, and he certainly showed that today. He brings real quality to us and he brings some intelligent to us, and credit to him…”
On the team
“We’re all grateful that he (Chislett) got the all-important goal, but it was a huge team effort today. I think the most important thing was just getting the three points at Vale Park in front of our home fans. We spoke about it at the start of the season and we’ve had three real difficult teams here, but we managed to get it done today. It was a closely-fought game. We took the chance that presented itself early in the first-half. In the second-half it was an evenly-fought contest and we came out on top…”
Paul Cook (Chesterfield manager)
On his team’s performance
“I didn’t like us today, I didn’t enjoy us at all. I never felt we got a really good foothold in the game at all…”
On the Valiants
“I think you’ve got to give Port Vale great credit. They had far more hunger and desire, they were robust and they wanted to win the game a bit more than us. We were second best today all over the pitch and as a manager, sometimes, you’ve got to compliment the opposition and say ‘well done’…”

Yes I’m to worried about the back line. Injuries could be our downfall. Let’s hope we can get on top of it. But I’ve got to say we are defending better and playing with much more purpose. This team is clicking.
