As Port Vale prepares to embark on a new chapter in League Two following their relegation from League One, the club and its supporters find themselves grappling with uncertainty and cautious optimism under the stewardship of Darren Moore. This season, the Valiants face the daunting task of regaining their footing and mounting a challenge for promotion.

“The biggest thing is to galvanise and get together to start the rebuilding for next season,” said Moore, less than 12 months after taking Sheffield Wednesday into the Championship.
“But I am here for the rebuild. I am energised. It is a fantastic club with wonderful owners and a wonderful fan base.
“We have lots of ideas going forward and I look forward to getting that plan into action. But it is a big rebuild, let’s not kid ourselves.
“Structurally, we have got to get it right first and then it will be implemented on the pitch.
“We have to get a team together to cope with the demands of that league (League Two) and be pushing on to get this club back to this league and beyond.”
Moore’s managerial journey has been a rollercoaster. Sacked by Huddersfield Town earlier in the campaign, Moore left the Terriers entrenched in the Championship drop zone, with another relegation on his CV at West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League .
The irony of Huddersfield’s continued relegation struggles alongside another of Moore’s former clubs, Sheffield Wednesday, underscores the volatile nature of football management.
Despite the setbacks, Moore is widely respected as a good manager with a commendable track record and is seen as a genuinely likeable figure, which attests to his quality. However, he inherited a squad at Port Vale that struggled with the mental fortitude and application required for third-tier football, and despite the players they have, even the top online UK bookmakers aren’t confident that they can bounce back the first time of asking.
