“Seen an improvement” – Port Vale manager pleased with team’s performance against Leyton Orient
Port Vale manager Darren Moore said his side showed “more concentration and commitment” after they secured a battling draw against Leyton Orient on Tuesday evening.
James Wilson missed the Vale’s best chance of the game but the Valiants also had to rely on a number of saves from Connor Ripley while the home side also had appeals for a penalty turned down as it ended in a goalless draw
On another night we could and probably should have shown a little more composure when we got into the final third but we still created enough chances to come away with a positive result…
Speaking after the game, Moore told the media: “Credit to the boys for showing the commitment tonight and the courage to stick to the task. We tweaked the shape a little more and freshened it up with one or two personnel coming in. Considering we had 24 to 48 hours to work on that, it was good. There was more solidity about the shape, there was more concentration and commitment and they worked hard together to earn that point.
“We had to start from somewhere. I think this is the club’s first clean sheet since December so that is a positive. But on the other side we had chances in the first-half. We forced them into errors which turned into chances for us. On another night we could and probably should have shown a little more composure when we got into the final third but we still created enough chances to come away with a positive result.
“Apart from one late on where Connor Ripley tipped it on to the bar, after what was just a lapse of concentration, I think that was it from their point of view. Tonight the concentration levels were better and the stats were again in our favour. So, that shows another improvement in terms of the mind-set, mentality and the performance. We need to build on that, we have another tough game on Saturday against Oxford and we need to take the positives from tonight and take them into that game.”
Moore also paid tribute to the travelling fans adding: “Fantastic. I thank them again, and that’s why we all went over to them after the game. It is a long way down here, it is a work night and it is your hard-earned money to come and support us.”
