Port Vale have been dealt a significant blow with the news that top-scorer Ben Garrity has been ruled out “long-term” according to manager Andy Crosby.
Garrity, who has scored eleven goals, mainly from midfield, has been outstanding this season so his loss will be keenly felt, especially as Vale are light in central midfield after the recall of Ollie Arblaster and injury to Funso Ojo.
Crosby revealed after the loss to Carlisle United that Garrity had been carrying an injury for some time. It forced him off in the second-half of the Carlisle game after he had earlier given Vale the lead. It also meant he missed the home draw with Charlton on Saturday.
Speaking after the game, Crosby commented to the local media that: “Ben Garrity is going to be a long-term injury” and confirmed that in terms of the midfield “we are down to the bare bones.”
The Valiants currently have loanee Alfie Devine, Tom Sang (who has only recently returned from injury) and youngster Rhys Walters as options. Jason Lowe can also slot into central midfield although he has been deployed in the back three in recent games.
