“Cross my fingers” – Andy Crosby has injury concerns ahead of game with Lincoln City
Port Vale manager Andy Crosby said seven players missed the Football League Trophy clash with Wrexham in midweek and he will “cross his fingers” before planning his starting eleven for Saturday’s clash with Lincoln City.
Senior players James Wilson, Conor Grant, Mitch Clark, Alex Iacovitti, Dan Jones, Kofi Balmer , Jason Lowe and Ben Garrity all missed the game at the Racecourse Ground. That match saw Vale give debuts to two teenagers in central defender Ben Lomax and forward Andrew Buer, who did an excellent job playing out of position on Vale’s left flank.
The Valiants’ plans for Saturday are further complicated by captain Nathan Smith’s red card in the FA Cup draw with Burton Albion which will see the centre-half suspended.
Addressing the issue Crosby said: “We’ve currently got seven players injured and one suspended. I will go to sleep tonight and cross my fingers. We are where we are. We have picked up a number of injuries over the last few weeks. We’ll work our way through and with the players we’ve got.”
