Former Valiants: John Askey gets Football League job
Former Port Vale manager John Askey has been handed a job as manager of a League Two side.
Askey has been named as the new manager of strugglers Hartlepool United, following the departure of Keith Curle. Askey will be assisted by former Port Vale goalkeeper Mark Goodlad.
Askey told the official Hartlepool website: “This is an exciting project to be involved with but everyone has to buy into that project. It is a quick turnaround but one we are relishing. We ask the fans to stick with us and back the players. We will make sure that every player is giving their all for the shirt and we look forward to seeing you all this coming Saturday.”
Askey was manager of Port Vale from 2019 until he left the club on January 4th 2021 after a poor run of form. He joined York in November 2021 and guided them to promotion via the play-offs. He was surprisingly sacked by York earlier this season.
