Port Vale matchwinner James Wilson pays tribute to Darrell Clarke
Striker James Wilson says the entire squad have respect and love for manager Darrell Clarke as he reflected on his match winning performance at Plymouth.
Wilson scored twice in the game as the Valiants recorded a memorable 2-0 away win over promotion chasing Plymouth.
I think we all have the respect for the gaffer, we all love him and we all want to work and do well for him…
The striker said the manager and coaching staff’s meticulous planning played a big part in the win commenting: “We came out with a firm gameplan, we knew what we were doing from the start and I think we executed it brilliantly. There were probably five or ten minutes in the first-half where we were under the cosh a bit but we saw it out and again ended up coming away with the three points.”
Paying tribute to the manager Wilson added: “I think we all have the respect for the gaffer, we all love him and we all want to work and do well for him and he is the same to us. We try and give him 100% on a weekly basis and maybe the first half was slightly lacking in some areas, but I think we came out in the second half and managed to close the game out well.”
Assistant manager Andy Crosby also came in for praise with the two-goal striker telling the media: “Cros pulled me in, in the middle of the week and said stay in the middle of the box, that is where all your goals are coming from and again two of them have come from in between the posts tonight,” Wilson explained. “The staff and the analysts do a lot of work regarding the gameplan and how we can improve as a team and individuals. I think they have done a brilliant job.”
