A team that can improve – James Gibbons on the Port Vale squad
Defender James Gibbons says that the Port Vale squad will continue to look for ways to perform better despite their current strong run of form.
Gibbons, named the sponsors man of the match for his performance against Colchester United was speaking to the media ahead of Port Vale’s trip to Crawley Town at the weekend.
It’s all well and good when you’re doing good. It’s when you do not so well when you need to have a look at ourselves as a squad. That’s the sign of a team that can improve…
The full-back commented on the squad’s mood saying it was: “Positive. Still a lot to work on. Results have been OK, but we’ve got to kick on from that, we’ve got keep it going.
“Good point at Mansfield although we were nowhere near our best and we rectified it on Saturday with a 3-0 win.
“But even still we dissected the game and we still conceded chances where we need to be more solid. When you’re coming away from a 3-0 game picking up the negatives, you’re in a better place than we were in the past.
“It’s all well and good when you’re doing good. It’s when you do not so well when you need to have a look at ourselves as a squad. That’s the sign of a team that can improve.”
Gibbons also praised the Vale coaching team adding: “Perfect. As players you’d rather have loads of detail to process yourself. As a squad we all know our roles. It’s all good for us.”
He has also adapted to a new position of left wingback saying: “I don’t mind it. I played a lot of games previously at left-back so I can just slot in there.”
Gibbons scored his second goal for the club on Saturday and he was clearly delighted adding: “I was due one. It has been coming over the last few weeks.”
