The Valiants were second-best for the majority of the match as their worrying slump continued.
Speaking to the media after the poor 2-0 home defeat Askey told the media: “It wasn’t good enough. There’s not many games where I’ve stood here and said we deserved to not get anything from the game but today was one…
“It just wasn’t satisfactory today… The disappointing part was we weren’t able to get back in the game and never really troubled them… The main focus is getting a result as soon as possible.”

Smith is not good enough look at goals conceded in the last 5 years and who is the common denominator in defence. This is not rocket science but pure ignorence and stupidity if management and coaching staff cannot see this. Amoo has been left out Tom is too old and Cullen and Oleyke are always injured. Robinson was brought in and needs a decent run or moving on. A solid centre half is a must, Worrall and Conlon will be back soon hopefully as will Gibbons and Montano. Move Whitehead on along with Trickett Smith and we may survive.

We have to work harder and complete better and fight for the club and manager
We are better than this the player’s need to look at themselves
The last thing we need is new management we were just getting settled as a club and team
Hopefully we can get out of this bad run and start the new year in a positive frame of mind

John Askey will be alarmed at Vale’s present form and total lack of effort . We need either a refreshed Smith and Legge or the possibility of two new players performing their roles .Scott Brown may need a spell out of the team as well .These are things I never thought to voice because they have been fantastic signings and super players—but rather unkindly the words have been are apt. Legge appears tired and lacks pace—an awful pass back against Carlisle at home seized on by their forward but not finished was a first sign of lethargy .Smith seems to be missing his previous control and energy .While even Scott Brown seems to be lacking control in his penalty area and making rash decisions with mishandling where before he was reliable to say the least .I repeat all these three players are personal favourites and a pleasure to watch when on form .
John Askey will need to either rest all three or get fresh blood in .Everybody must have a best before date as I do not expect Tom Pope to still be playing when he is 73.
